Castres sorti congelé
Only the hardy and the brave were present Saturday afternoon for the game against TOP 14 leaders Castres. A fantastic, just under 10,000 braved the sub-zero artic conditions, but with mulled wine provided by the Bodega, this wintery scene was set for an encounter of grand proportions.
The game was all Montpellier and it was soon to see that the Blue and Whites were here for victory and victory alone. Complete domination was the order of the day and although Castres made every effort to challenge the home side, it was to no avail.
There were no tries scored but Federico Todeschini was on form with the boot and knocked over 4 first half penalties to bring the half time score to 12-0 to Montpellier.
The 2nd half was again all Montpellier with only flashes of territorial occupation by Castres, Montpellier won the rucks and mauls missed no tackles and were using an aggression which Castres just could not deal with. On the hooter the Man of the Match Francois Trin-Duc converted the last penalty and that was that. The TOP 14 leaders beaten but beaten well and they picked up thier first Fanny of the season, a truly great effort by Montpellier with their forwards taking enormous credit for their performances, if we played like this every week we would be in the Top 4.of the TOP 14. This was a team effort and all are to be congratulated, coaches, staff and every player on that team sheet. BRAVO A MASSIVE EFFORT.
Next Friday the Boys are playing Connacht in the European Amlin Cup and will have a fair few of our younger players on the trip, so the best of luck to everybody concerned and a win in Ireland wil set us up for quarter final qualification with the last pool game against Worcester Warriors on Friday the 22nd Jan. K.O. 20.00
AS ALWAYS ONWARDS AND UPWARDS MONTPELLIER.
